Pineapple Hydrosol

What exactly is a hydrosol?

Hydrosols are floral waters or plant waters. They are created by distilling fresh fruit, flowers, leaves, or other plant material. It’s basically the same process used to produce essential oils. The difference between hydrosol and essential oil is that EOs are skimmed from the top of the distillate. So what’s the hydrosol? It’s the whole water solution! It’s much less concentrated than EOs and has a soft, subtle aroma. Hydrosols offer all the benefits of the botanical of choice and are far more sustainable to produce. Hydrosols are also safe for sensitive skin types whereas essential oils can be highly irritating. EOs actually create a whole lot of waste. It uses tons of plant matter to get a tiny drop of oil.

How it’s made

We use a copper still. The same kind that they started using centuries ago! The whole plant goes in the water. The still is then heated so that the water forms a vapor. The vapor goes up a tube and into a cooling bucket with fresh water. The vapor that has now turned back into a liquid then drips down into a separate jar. Once it’s done, every drop of that water is going to have plant material in it.

Benefits of pineapple

Pineapple is rich in Vitamin A& C, bromelain enzymes, AHAs, and more skin-loving nutrients. It helps exfoliate, brighten and reduce inflammation. It may help to alleviate breakouts and diminish discoloration. It’s a great source of antioxidants, which work to fight against damaging free radicals and environmental stressors. We love eating pineapple, and our skin loves it even more!

If you’ve started to wonder, why can’t we just rub pineapple on our skin to soak up some of these scrumptious benefits? First, that would get sticky and be very messy. Second of all, too much bromine can be irritating. The hydrosol delivers a gentler dose than you would get from the oil. Lastly, the skin can absorb the water solution much easier. To sum it up, your skin reaps the most pineapple benefits with a hydrosol.

  • Helps maintain hydration. We know that pineapple is a very hydrating fruit. So it makes sense that it also quenches your skin! The sugars and electrolytes in pineapple attract natural moisture to the skin’s surface, where it locks in moisture.
  • Fresh, juicy, and plump complexion. Applied topically, pineapple can increase the natural production of collagen. This leads to more supple, younger-looking skin.
  • Keeps skin clean and bright. One of our favorite things about pineapple is that it’s one of nature’s best exfoliators. It contains AHAs and bromelain enzymes which gently exfoliate dead skin cells and remove dirt, excess oil, and other impurities.

What makes our cleansing water better than the rest

While most skin toners and makeup removers are mostly plain old water, we use a real fruit hydrosol as the base. That gives you maximum skincare benefits.

We ensure you get the most out of our ingredients because we make the hydrosol ourselves! So many other brands claim to have tropical fruit enzymes in their products. In reality, most manufacturers are distilling essential oils and extracts in water and calling it a tropical enzyme. They do this because it is far less time-consuming and way less expensive. It may be easier for the maker, but they lose all the skincare benefits! We don’t just claim pineapple because we think it’s cute. Our formulas are the real deal!

The way we do it yields minimal waste, and every ounce of our formula contain plant matter.

We don’t use any additives such as synthetic fragrances, dyes or artificial preservatives. How do you get that refreshing scent and super cute color, you ask? Our tropical botanical blend, of course! Looks, smells, feels like a vacation for your senses and for your skin.
