Our natural beauty brand founder, Cindy Holland-Rodriguez grew up in the beauty business. Literally, her nap time was often behind the makeup counter. Her mother was a pioneer for female entrepreneurs and owned her own cosmetic studios beginning over fifty years ago. Those beauty businesses served as her after school care, her first job in high school, and ultimately as the foundation for her career.
She learned the fundamentals from her mother. From understanding social graces to the basics in business. She credits her mom for so much of the woman she is today. When she was young, having to put on full makeup every day and being held to a certain standard of presentability at all times was exhausting. Years later, she appreciated the skills her mother ingrained into her life practice.
My grandmother, Cindy’s mother, demonstrated daily that a confident woman wields an undeniable power. Showing woman the clear path to their potential by giving them confidence. By making them feel beautiful.
If you've checked out our story, you know our natural beauty brand is founded by a league of women in the beauty business. Mother's have been so incredibly influential in our lives, we couldn't help but dive into one of our personal stories this Mother's Day.
Q: Describe your ideal mother's day (for anyone looking for ideas for mom).
Brunch at home followed by a backyard barbecue. I want the family to come over and hang out instead of going out.
Q: What is the most difficult thing about being a mother?
When bad things or hard lessons happen to your kids and you just want to make them feel better, when sometimes there's nothing you can do to fix their situation.
Q: What are some of the best parts?
Now that my kids are grown, we have so much fun. Going out to dinner, taking trips, they're a blast to do things with now.
Q: If you could give your mom one more Mother's Day card, what would you write?
I love you, mom. Thanks for being strong and for all the lessons you taught me.
Q: What advice would you give to young working moms?
Balance is important. Don't work so much you miss the important events but also don't feel guilty for working. If work makes you feel good, keep it up.
Q: Do you have any advice for those celebrating their first Mother's Day as a mom?
Don't worry so much about being perfect or what other mom's think, pay attention to your kids' individual needs. You're doing fine.
