How-to Naturally dye easter eggs

We don’t use any artificial dyes or harmful colorants in our natural makeup and non-toxic skincare. We definitely don’t like dyes in our food. So why should dying eggs be an exception? Artificial dyes contain heavy metals like aluminum and arsenic. They’re made from petroleum or coal tar. They’re filled with countless harmful chemicals that are bad for our health and the environment. Helloooo, we’re trying to live a healthy lifestyle here. Let’s try dying Easter eggs the natural way!

Dying Easter eggs

To make the dye, bring 1 quart of water, 1 tablespoon of salt, 2 tablespoons of vinegar, and 2 tablespoons of whatever you’re using to create the color to a boil. Allow the mixture to simmer for 30 minutes, then remove the pot from the burner. Strain the dye and let it sit until it reaches room temperature.

Next, dip hard-boiled eggs one at a time into the dye for at least five minutes. The longer the eggs sit in the dye, the more saturated the color will be.

It’s the same process for each color, just substitute the last ingredient.

  • Light blue: red cabbage
  • Blue: grape juice
  • Dark blue: blueberries
  • Purple: red wine
  • Pink: beets *our personal fave
  • Yellow: saffron or turmeric
  • Orange: chili powder
  • Copper: red or yellow onion skins
  • Brown: coffee
  • Green: parsley or spinach *these turn out pretty light

We hope you have just as much fun (or more!) dying Easter eggs the natural way. They'll certainly be a whole lot better to eat!
